Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mandir
The Dagdusheth Temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesh and stands as a beacon of devotion and philanthropy in Pune. It is widely known for its immense popularity and the stunning, lavishly decorated main idol. The central figure is a magnificent idol of Lord Ganesh, measuring about 7.5 feet tall and 4 feet wide. It is famously and intricately adorned with substantial amounts of gold and precious jewels, which are regularly maintained and replaced, making the darshan (viewing) a truly awe-inspiring experience. History & Origin: The temple was founded in 1893 by Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai, a successful sweet maker and businessman in Pune, and his wife, Lakshmibai. They built the temple following a personal tragedy (the loss of their son to the plague epidemic) on the advice of their spiritual guru.
